the first photo is of my nephews pub here in Brighton, the second one is one I found in a print shop this morning. Couldn't believe it, looks about the 1920's to me judging by the women's clothing, look at all those lovely window frames torn
out for no reason other than modernisation.
Tried to date it by the newspaper placard about the mining disaster, the only one with 39 dead was a mine in California ,but couldn't place a date on it.

Just wondering whether the archway at the back on the old photograph led to the stables.

It's a real shame when things are 'modernised'
Guess only later down the years we realise what's been destroyed....
Great pictures again John, thanks!

Will have to keep an eye out for this pub when we are next back down your way. Is it in the town?

hello everyone.,
in reply Yes there were old stables behind the pub, it was (or still is in Jubilee St.).
they are in the process of building a hotel right behind the pub, should be finished next Feb.
The Waggon and Horses is in Church Street, and any one who visits is assured
of a very warm welcome from myself or any member of staff- just ask for
Uncle John and I will gladly buy you a drink.

hello all,
Here's another 2 pubs for you, the cobblers thumb is one of my favourites, pity it's been allowed to get so tatty.
the other one is called King and Queen,it looks old but was only built in the 1930's, probably one of the biggest in Brighton centre.
